Procrastinating isn’t going to make your problems disappear. Most of the time, it’s going to make your problems snowball. Maybe not physically — but at least in your mind. The longer you put off your problems, the bigger they’re going to feel and the more you’re going to dread them. It’s best to rip off the bandaid as soon as possible so you don’t have time to overthink, so you can’t torture yourself with worst-case scenarios and make yourself even more miserable.
Besides, the sooner you deal with whatever is wrong, the sooner you will reach the other side. The sooner you will be able to stop, unwind, and breathe again. You don’t want to feel this sense of panic forever. You don’t want this problem to be rattling around in the back of your mind for weeks, months, or even years to come.
You owe it to yourself to stop procrastinating because waiting until tomorrow has only been extending the pain, extending the fear, extending the misery.
It’s tempting to wait until tomorrow to accomplish something you don’t want to deal with today — but you need to ask yourself whether you have a valid reason to wait. Are you really going to be better equipped to handle the situation tomorrow? Are you really going to be in a better mood tomorrow? Is it really going to be easier to process the fallout tomorrow? Or are you simply making excuses in order to put this task off indefinitely? Are you openly lying to yourself?
Sometimes, you need to push yourself to do the things that scare you (or bore you) the most. Sometimes, you need to make it through the most difficult moments in order to reach the most rewarding ones. It won’t be easy in the short-term, but it will be worth it in the long-run.
Remember, no one is immune to stress. Your panic isn’t a sign that there’s something hopelessly wrong with you. It’s a sign you’re human.
You’re allowed to feel overwhelmed. You’re allowed to move at your own pace. You’re allowed to take a break from your problems when they feel too heavy to carry. But you can’t distract yourself forever. You can’t run from what’s wrong forever.
If you’ve been putting off a specific task for a long time, and it’s been causing you an extreme amount of stress, then you should deal with it now. Deal with it before it chips away at your sanity. Deal with it before it negatively impacts your health. Deal with it before it becomes a much bigger problem than it was in the first place.
Stop waiting until tomorrow to accomplish something you could do today. Stop procrastinating when waiting has only caused you to stress more and more. You deserve happiness and you deserve success. However, in order to achieve those things, you might have to overcome a few obstacles first. You might have to face your biggest fears in order to make it to your destination.
