Like with many things emotional, you cant get better at them up until you understand what the fuck they are. You have no concept where youre going or how to get there.
Self-awareness includes understanding yourself and your habits on three levels: 1) what youre doing, 2) how you feel about it, and 3) the hardest part, figuring out what you dont understand about yourself.
Knowing What Youre Doing
We utilize these diversions to prevent a great deal of uncomfortable emotions, therefore focusing and eliminating distractions on how you feel without them can expose some type of frightening shit in some cases. Eliminating distractions is important since it gets us to the next level.
Other types of interruption consist of work, TV, drugs/alcohol, video games, cross-stitching, arguing with individuals on the web, etc. Set up time in your day to get away from them. Believe about how youre feeling.
You would believe this would be simple and pretty simple, however the fact is that in the 21st century, many of us do not even know what the fuck were doing half the time. Removing interruptions from your life– like, you understand, turning off your damn phone every now and then and engaging with the world around you is a nice first action to self-awareness.
Understanding What Youre Feeling
Youll be tempted to state something like, “Ick! Anxiety! What the fuck is wrong with me!” That simply makes it even worse. Whatever emotion is there has an excellent reason to be there, even if you do not remember what that factor is. Dont be too difficult on yourself.
In the beginning, when you actually take note of how you feel, it may freak you out. You may concern recognize youre often actually pretty unfortunate or that youre sort of an angry asshole to a great deal of individuals in your life. You may realize that theres a lot of anxiety going on, which entire “phone dependency” thing is actually simply a method to continuously numb and sidetrack yourself from that anxiety. Its important at this point to not evaluate the feelings that develop.
Understanding Your Own Emotional Bullshit
Once you see all the nasty, unpleasant stuff youre feeling, youll start to get a sense of where your own little insane lives.
I get truly sensitive about being disrupted. I get irrationally upset when Im trying to speak and the individual Im speaking to is distracted. And while in some cases it is just them being rude, sometimes shit takes place and I end up looking like an overall dickface because I cant stand going two seconds without every word I speak being respected.

Now, simply being self-aware is not adequate in and of itself. One must have the ability to manage their feelings too.
