In action to the unions claim, a spokesperson for the San Francisco city lawyers office told Beckers: “The city values the remarkable work that nurses do throughout its public health care system, particularly throughout the pandemic. Were not going to litigate cases in the press. Well examine this claim and address is in court.”.

In general, union officials claim about 90,000 hours of overtime work has gone overdue.

Union officials compete the citys public healthcare centers are systematically understaffed, which threatens the safety of patients and nurses, according to KPIX. Additionally, nurses who work both daily shifts and civil servant designated positions arent receiving overtime pay when they work more than 80 hours in a pay duration since overtime hours are being categorized as per diem hours, according to the union.

The Service Employees International Union 1021, which represents nurses at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and other public websites, submitted the lawsuit Oct. 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
