The 2 organizations first announced the deal in January and anticipated the deal to be completed about 6 to nine months after the due diligence duration. In May, Harrington HealthCare CEO Ed Moore said the due diligence duration would take about three or four months longer than at first prepared..

The boards of both organizations reached a conclusive arrangement on the offer Sept. 23. Under the arrangement, UMass Memorial, a three-hospital system in Worcester, Mass, will acquire Harrington HealthCare, a Southbridge, Mass.-based system making up a 119-bed medical facility, satellite area and three medical office complex.

The offer still requires approval from the state.
