Ohio Medicaid moves to make telehealth expansions permanent

The department in March began briefly enabling telehealth due to the pandemic.

” This long-term growth of medically proper telehealth services allows us to increase access to quality care while preserving the fiscal sustainability and stability of Ohios Medicaid program,” Ohio Medicaid Director Maureen Corcoran stated.

The Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review, a group of Ohio lawmakers who examine guidelines, will examine the departments brand-new guidelines before they are finalized.

About 25 percent of Ohioans have Medicaid health protection, and initial information showed that telehealth has been utilized for behavioral health services, with a minimum of 200,000 recipients utilizing it for mental health services, according to the Sept. 1 report. An extra 395,000 Medicaid receivers have participated in telehealth with medical healthcare service providers, with a total of 878,000 claims.

Ohio Medicaid officials have submitted rules to permanently continue telehealth services expanded throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Cleveland.com.
