49 states file $2.15 trillion opioid epidemic lawsuit against Purdue Pharma

The drugmaker applied for insolvency in September 2019 to solve countless suits accusing it of sustaining the opioid crisis, mainly by flooding neighborhoods with its extremely addictive narcotic OxyContin.

Oklahoma is the only state not involved in the lawsuit, submitted Aug. 17, because it settled lawsuits with Purdue Pharma in 2019. Two of the countrys most populous states, California and New York, are looking for $192 billion and $165 billion, respectively.

Purdue Pharmas proposed settlement provides an evaluation more than $10 billion in value, which includes the whole of its assets.

” On July 30, Purdue successfully concluded among the most substantial observing campaigns in chapter 11 history,” Michele Sharp, Purdues executive director of media relations, stated in a declaration. “Purdue continues its work to emerge from personal bankruptcy, amass additional assistance for the proposed settlement, and carry out a final resolution.”.

Purdue Pharma spokespeople told CNN the high-figure claims were prepared for and that the business rejected any misdeed.

Purdue Pharma is being sued for $2.15 trillion by 49 states, Washington, D.C., and numerous U.S. areas for its role in the opioid crisis, according to CNN.
