There are 48,835 medically active emergency situation doctors in 2020, and 28 percent are females. The total density of emergency situation physicians per 100,000 population is 14.9.

Published in the Annals of Emergency Medicine, the research study includes an analysis of the 2020 American Medical Association Physician Masterfile data set. Researchers consisted of all physicians who designated emergency situation medication as their primary or secondary specialized in the analysis.
Urban emergency situation doctors are younger, with a median age 50 years, compared to those in large backwoods, where the average age of emergency situation physicians is 58 years, or small backwoods, where mean age is 62 years. Urban emergency physicians are also more likely to be women.

The analysis reveals that a lot of emergency physicians practice in metropolitan areas (92 percent), whereas 6 percent practice in large rural areas and 2 percent in small rural locations.
