Illinois health system reports employee email hack

Four things to know:.

Multiple employee e-mail accounts from Freeport, Ill.-based FHN Memorial Hospital were hacked in February, according to a report in the Journal Standard.

1. The health system is performing an ongoing examination into how an unauthorized individual got to a restricted number of worker email accounts between Feb. 12 and 13.

2. The examination has not yet figured out whether the unauthorized individual had the ability to view the e-mails or attachments, which in many cases contained patient information.

3. Clients names, birth dates, medical records, medical information and Social Security numbers might have been exposed in the attack.

4. FHN Memorial Hospital informed impacted people by mail.
