Genentech to eliminate 474 positions

The largest position category to be eliminated is senior clinical experts, with 116 positions slashed.

South San Francisco, Calif.-based biotech business Genentech reported to the California Employment Development Department that it will quickly lay off 474 employees, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

” The success of our organization depends upon our ability to constantly examine, progress and manage our operations in the best interests of the consumers and clients we serve,” the representative said, including that Genentech is “transitioning from a national technique and organizational model to one focused around local healthcare communities.”.

Genentech informed state regulators that many of the staff members being laid off will work their last day Sept. 18, but some will leave in August and October.

A business spokesperson told the San Francisco Chronicle the layoffs are unassociated to the pandemic or the scientific trials the drugmaker is conducting to test arthritis drug Actemras capability to deal with COVID-19.
